MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Tehran will speed up arms supplies to Palestinians in retaliation against Israel for attempting to fly an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over Iran, Agence France Press reported Monday, citing a statement by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Commander Gen. Amir-Ali Hajizadeh.
“We’ll speed up the armament of the West Bank and we retain the right for any retaliatory measures possible,” Hajizadeh said.
The general’s statement was made a day after Iran’s air defenses shot down an Israeli reconnaissance drone. The UAV was trying to reach the area of Natanz, where Iran’s key uranium enrichment plant is situated, the IRGC claimed Sunday.
Iran is also ready to pass on new missile production technology to Palestinians, IRGC former commander Mohsen Rezaei said in early August.
The conflict between Israel and Palestine’s Hamas movement intensified in early July, when Tel Aviv started to perform air strikes in response to rocket attacks by Hamas, and later launched a ground offensive on Gaza to destroy tunnels into Israel. Since the fighting broke out, over 2,000 Palestinians, mainly civilians, and over 60 Israelis have been killed.
