MEXICO, December 27 (RIA Novosti) - Authorities in Nicaragua ordered preventive evacuation of about 300 families living near the country’s highest volcano, San Cristobal, following another emission of ash and lava, Mexican media said on Wednesday.
About 300 families are currently being taken to a safe place.
“We don’t want to take any risk, it’s time to evacuate, to defend our families,” government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo said.
The government also issued a warning for air carriers.
The volcano, located about 135 km northwest of the capital Managua, currently spews plumes of ash and hot gases at the height of about 500 meters.
