During the election conference at the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Alexander Kogan has been elected as the new Director General.

NOVOGORSK (Moscow Region), September 18 (RIA Novosti) – During the election conference at the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Alexander Kogan has been elected as the new Director General.

According to the federation's press service, Kogan was elected unanimously. He was the only candidate, as the member of the Russian Olympic Committee Valentin Piseev withdrew from voting.

Kogan was previously vice president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation. During the Olympic Games in Sochi, he was head of the figure skating department of Sochi-2014 organizing committee.

Figure skating was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908. It is one of the most popular sports in Russia, with some of the best figure skaters throughout the history coming from Russia. Russian pair and ice dance champions have reigned internationally for decades.

During the Sochi-2014 winter Olympics, Russia won 5 medals in figure skating, including three gold medals, in the women's individual, mixed pairs and the mixed team disciplines.
