MOSCOW, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - Italian rescuers found an inflatable dinghy adrift south of the island of Lampedusa, with 73 illegal migrants alive and 18 dead, Italy’s ANSA reported.

Over 3,500 people, including women and children, have been rescued by the Italian navy since Friday in the stretch of the Mediterranean between Sicily and the Libyan and Tunisian coast.

The total number of migrants who landed in Italy the start of 2014 totals 100,000 people.

In 2013 there were 43,000 people, according to the UN refugee agency UNHCR.
