MOSCOW, August 22 (RIA Novosti) — Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed Friday that Russia’s humanitarian convoy had started moving toward the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk, the Kommersant FM radio station quoted presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

According to the broadcast, Peskov declined to comment on what authority authorized the convoy’s movement.

Earlier on Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that the humanitarian aid convoy left the Ukrainian border and started moving toward the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk.

Another group of 34 trucks began clearing Russian customs.

In August, Russia suggested sending a humanitarian aid convoy accompanied by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) representatives to eastern Ukraine in light of the tragic humanitarian situation there.

On August 12, a convoy of 280 trucks, carrying about 2,000 tons of humanitarian aid, left Moscow Region for Ukraine.
