MOSCOW, August 17 (RIA Novosti) – This past Thursday, August 14, Sweden marked 200 years it has remained at peace. This record eclipses even Switzerland, known for their neutrality.
The last time Sweden declared war was the Swedish-Norwegian war of 1814.
While Sweden has not directly taken any military action since 1814, it has assisted many other countries in their war efforts, most notably Nazi Germany in World War II.
Today, Sweden is one of the largest exporters of arms in the world, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In 2012, the institute reported that the Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab sold 2.9 billion dollars worth of arms internationally. The largest purchaser of Swedish arms was India, followed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Thailand.
