MOSCOW, August 8 (RIA Novosti) – Swedish-Danish dairy cooperative Arla Foods has stopped making products aimed at the Russian market after the country’s ban on agricultural goods import from Europe, the company wrote on Twitter on Friday.

"Arla can confirm that we will be affected by Russian ban on EU dairy products. We have stopped production of products to Russia," the company wrote in the microblog.

The company also said its annual sales in Russia totaled 1 billion Danish kroner ($180 million), mostly for cheese and butter, which is about 1.3 percent of the company's total global revenue.

Based in Denmark, Arla Foods is Europe's third-largest dairy producer with a yearly trade turnover of 6.5 billion euros ($8.7 billion).

On Thursday, Russia imposed a one-year ban on the import of beef, pork, poultry, fish, seafood, milk, dairy products, as well as fruits and vegetables from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and Norway.

Russia’s import ban came in response to several rounds of Western sanctions against Russian businesses and officials imposed by the United States at the height of the Ukrainian crisis, who then pressed for its allies in the West to follow its lead. The European Union, Canada and Australia soon caved in and drew up their own blacklists.
