TEL AVIV, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian militants resumed firing rockets at the Israeli territory Saturday night, refusing to extend the ceasefire as proposed by the United Nations and supported by Tel Aviv, an Israeli army soldier told RIA Novosti.

"They have launched three mines and three rockets. We are not responding so far," she said.

The mines and rocket launch started after 17:00 GMT, when the 12-hour humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip expired. The Israeli government voted earlier on Saturday to extend the truce by another four hours to allow civilians in the enclave to replenish food and medical supplies and to move from the conflict zone to safer areas.

The rebels from the Hamas movement, however, refused to extend the humanitarian pause, the group's official Sami Abu Zuhri said earlier, according to AP.

The fire resumed soon after the death toll in Gaza topped 1,000 on the 19th day of the conflict, according to the Palestinian Emergency Services. Israel claims to have lost 40 soldiers and three civilians since the beginning of the conflict.

Israel launched its Operation Protective Edge to put an end to rocket fire from Gaza and undermining the Hamas movement, which controls the region, back on July 8. On July 17, the Israeli Army switched to a ground assault largely aimes at locating and destroying underground tunnels dug by militants to sneak into Israel and transport weapons.
