Ukrainian authorities are going to carry out reforms to adapt to European Union legislation, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Wednesday.

“We are ready to carry out certain reforms to adapt Ukraine to European Union legislation,” Poroshenko posted on his Twitter feed.

On June 27, Poroshenko signed the economic part of the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement, which includes provisions for the creation of a free trade zone. The political part was signed back in March by then-President Victor Yanukovych.

Before the implementation, the agreement needs to be ratified by Ukraine, all EU member states and the European Parliament.

According to Poroshenko, the document will be ratified in Ukraine only after the current session of the Verkhovna Rada ends.

Russia previously expressed concerns over the Association Agreement, as it could trigger an uncontrolled flow of duty unpaid goods to Russia and therefore negatively affect the domestic market.
