VIENNA, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - Regular meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Governing Council in Vienna is due to begin on Monday with Iranian nuclear issue topping the agenda.

A senior diplomatic source in Vienna told RIA Novosti that the discussion of the Iranian issue "will be as usual." According to the source, the upcoming IAEA session will include the statements by the representatives of the "sextet" and the IAEA Director General. The joint statement, however, is not planned.

Implementation of IAEA safeguards in Iran will generally follow the agreement on five additional practical measures agreed upon last week. The additional measures include the conclusion of the safeguards approach for the IR-40 heavy water reactor near Arak.

The Arak plant is believed to have a potential to provide Iran with weapons-grade plutonium, an alternative ingredient for a nuclear bomb. Tehran says Arak was designed to produce isotopes for medical and agricultural use, and that it has no intention to reprocess spent fuel from the reactor into plutonium for weapons.

The IAEA also remains concerned about possible undeclared military activities in Parchin site which has not yet been inspected by the agency.

In November 2013, Iran and the P5+1 group agreed in Geneva on the temporary limiting of Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for a partial halt of US and EU sanctions against Iran. A complete agreement guaranteeing the lack of a military component to Iran’s nuclear program is scheduled to be finalized by July 20.
