MOSCOW, April 29 (RIA Novosti) – Residents in Cheshire, England gathered on Tuesday in protest of plans to survey parts of Glazebury area for potential fracking this fall, local media reported.
In a joint statement, cited by the This is Cheshire news outlet, several local politicians said they “oppose these plans and are very concerned at the impact on the community of Glazebury.”
Paul Campell, a Conservative candidate for Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft, said he was very worried, along with area residents, about the possible impact of fracking on the local community.
Dina Baird, from Warrington Friends of the Earth, said “Warrington already faces serious flooding threats linked to climate change and if we do nothing, the consequences for us and for people around the world will be devastating. Digging for dirty fossil fuels just makes it worse. We could be creating our own positive solution.”
Last month, some 1,000 campaigners gathered in Manchester city for the largest anti-fracking rally in the UK to protest against the controversial gas drilling at Barton Moss. The march was a clear message to the government and energy companies that most Britons oppose fracking.
