TEL AVIV, November 8 (RIA Novosti) - Stray mortar rounds fell in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Thursday but caused little damage, an Israeli Army source told RIA Novosti.

The Israeli military think the incident was unintentional and was the result of an exchange of fire between Syrian government forces and rebels seeking to overthrow President Assad's regime.

"A few stray mortar rounds fell today in the central part of Golan close to the cease-fire line between Israel and Syria. This was the result of the civil conflict in Syria. There were no casualties or damage on our side," the Army source said.

One of the rounds hit a fence at an Israeli farm, he added.

On Monday, an Israeli army jeep was hit by stray rounds from the Syrian side and on Saturday three Syrian tanks briefly moved into the demilitarized buffer zone on the Heights.

Israel reacted to both incidents with a written statement to the UN Security Council, which reacted by describing them as "a flagrant breach" of the 1974 agreement delineating the area, and warned of the risk of "far-reaching consequences for the security and stability of the region."
