At least 15 people have been killed in northern Italy and about 100 injured after a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck on Monday morning, AGI news agency reported.
Only one death was initially reported by other Italian media earlier today.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Emilia-Romagna area in Modena province, and the shock was felt throughout northern Italy and as far away as Tuscany.
A man in the city of San Felice sul Panaro was killed by falling rubble from a building.
An industrial building collapsed in the city of Mirandola in Modena province, trapping four people, TMNews said. Rescue workers are trying to free them.
Hundreds of people in the area fled from inside buildings, and rail links in the area have been disrupted.
Another earthquake occurred in the same area on May 20.
