A Palestinian youth was killed on Sunday after Israeli military aircraft carried out airstrikes on suspected rocket launch sites near the town of Jabaliya in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Army radio reported.
Ayub Asalia, 12, was among two who died during the airstrikes, according to Adkham Abu Selmiya, a representative of the local medical service. Seventeen people have died and 30 have been injured in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks in the last three days, including members of the Islamic Jihad group, Palestinian sources say.
An Israeli airstrike on Friday killed the leader of the Popular Resistance Committee, Zuhair al-Qaissi, and his assistant, Mahmoud al-Hannani. Following that incident, the group announced its withdrawal from a ceasefire in Gaza brokered last year by Egypt between Palestinian armed groups and Israel.
Palestinian groups have fired over 100 rockets into Israel in the past three days in response to the death of their leader, of which 27 have been intercepted by the Israeli Iron Dome air defense system.
