President Dmitry Medvedev proposed on Monday that Russia could consider joining the Open Government Partnership, an international initiative designed to make government more transparent and effective.

“I believe it stands to reason for us to consider participation in this [initiative],” Medvedev said, adding that it also sets out to fight corruption, increase civic participation, and improve governance standards.

“Let’s look into it,” he said.

OGP aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, strengthen democracy and human rights, and harness technology and innovation to transform governance in the 21st century.
