A Kiev court on Tuesday ruled not to call former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to testify over a 2009 gas deal with Russia's Gazprom.
"The court decided not to question Yulia Tymoshenko, but to rely on the testimony she gave during the pre-trial investigation," Judge Rodion Kireyev said.
Tymoshenko and her defense team protested the decision. She had previously refused to testify because her request to call additional witnesses was rejected.
Tymoshenko, 50, was arrested on August 5. She is accused of damaging Ukraine's national interests by signing "unfair" gas supply deals with Russia as prime minister in 2009 and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
She has repeatedly denied all the charges against her, saying they are politically motivated.
