Ukraine plans to export about 20 million tons of grain from its 2011 harvest, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Klyuyev said on Wednesday.

"If the positive grain harvesting situation continues, we can expect grain exports from the current harvest to amount to 20 million tons, according to preliminary estimates, including up to 9 million tons of wheat exports," Klyuyev told a cabinet meeting.

Those figures allow for domestic needs and reserves.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said the 2011 grain harvest was expected to total at least 45 million tons.

Ukraine’s grain harvest fell 15 percent to 39.2 million metric tons in 2010, due to the poor harvest caused by a nationwide drought.

Ukraine capped grain exports in the autumn of that year due to the poor harvest. The restrictions were lifted this May.
