A decision on an extradition request for ousted Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev will be reached by the end of June, a spokesman for the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office said on Wednesday.
"In accordance with Belarusian legislation, a one month-long consideration period has been set for the request," Pyotr Kiselyov said.
He said the period may be extended if the Prosecutor General's Office needs to request additional materials on the case from the Kyrgyz side.
The Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office received the extradition request, along with an 18-page attachment, on May 21, a month after ousted Kyrgyz president took refuge in Belarus.
The interim authorities, who took power amid violent unrest in early April, accuse the ousted president of involvement in the shooting of civilians during riots in the capital, Bishkek.
A cabinet decree stated that security forces under Bakiyev's control, including snipers, fired at members of the public.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who offered Bakiyev refuge and criticized his overthrow, said in early May he did not intend to hand the former president over to the new Kyrgyz authorities.
