With results counted in 50 U.K. constituencies, the Labor party so far seems to be ahead in Thursday's general elections, claiming the victory in half of them, RIA Novosti correspondents reported on Friday.
The ruling party, however, lost the majority in three constituencies. The Conservatives retained their majority in eight constituencies and gained additional two seats.
The liberal democrats won in four constituencies so far. The Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru got one mandate each.
Nine seats will go to political parties of Northern Ireland.
U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown kept his seat, winning in Kirkcaldy with a comfortable majority of nearly 30,000 votes.
He garnered 64.5% of the vote, up 6.4 percentage points from the 2005 elections.
Results from the majority of constituencies are expected by Friday morning.
