The observation deck of the world's tallest skyscraper, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, was closed to visitors on Tuesday over power supply problems.
The $1.5 billion project was launched in 2004, and the tower was opened on January 4, 2010.
"We did not expect so many people to seek to visit the observation deck, and due to the large influx of visitors a decision was made to close it for technical maintenance and to prepare for a larger number of visitors," a spokesman for the Emaar Properties developer said.
He said contractor companies were working to improve power supplies to the building, but did not say when the observation deck would reopen.
People who have already bought tickets are eligible for refunds, he added.
Admission to the At the Top observatory on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa tower, formerly known as Burj Dubai, costs some $30 when bought in advance, with tickets for immediate entry priced at more than $100.
The Dubai government built the skyscraper to strengthen the emirate's image as one of the world's leading financial centers, and continued with the project despite the effect of the global financial crisis on its economy, particularly the real estate market.
Dubai stocks and bonds plummeted in November 2009 as Dubai World asked creditors for at least a six-month delay in debt payment. Abu Dhabi provided the state-owned investment company with a $10 billion bailout.
