Bolivian president Evo Morales has appointed a new government in which ministerial posts are equally divided between men and women, in a move against gender inequality.

Bolivian president Evo Morales has appointed a new government in which ministerial posts are equally divided between men and women, in a move against gender inequality.

"My dream has finally come true: today we defeated not only social, but also political inequality. Now men and women would be equally involved in public administration," Morales said during the swearing-in ceremony.

Ten women in the new Bolivian government will among others head ministries of justice, anti-corruption, industry, agriculture and health.

"The equality of men and women is a sign of respect to my mother, sister and daughter," he said.

Morales, Bolivia's first fully indigenous national leader, was sworn in for a second five-year term on Friday in the capital La Paz.

Since he came to power, industries including oil-and-gas and transportation, have been nationalized mainly to fund social programs. His Movement for Socialism (MAS) enjoys nearly unanimous support among the poor, rural and indigenous populations.
