Another three people are still missing after Typhoon Chan-hom reached the country's northwestern coast on Thursday morning, triggering heavy rains and landslides. Hundreds of people were also forced to flee their homes, the Philippine Star said.
Two people died in a landslide in the northern province of Ifugao and another died in the Zambales province, to the west of Manila. Three towns were flooded in the northern provinces of Luzon and power was lost in several others.
The typhoon began moving away from the Philippines on Friday morning.
Last weekend, Typhoon Kujira hit the northeast of the Philippines, leaving at least 27 dead, hundreds of houses damaged and more than 54,000 people homeless.
The Philippines is hit by around 20 typhoons and tropical storms a year, most often in June.
