Villagers share their fire prevention secrets with President Medvedev

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has visited the village of Maly Shaplak in the Republic of Mari El. The approach taken by this village, in a region where a state of emergency was declared due to the wildfires, has been exemplary. The villagers say they have not had a single fire this abnormally hot summer.

Vigilant residents don’t just keep watch round-the-clock, but have pasted firefighting instructions on every house. The president was also shown a pump and the pond which fire engines can use for water if necessary.
