MOSCOW, December 6 (R-Sport) – Lev Prague completed a 4-2 home win over Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod to extend its win streak to three games and climb to the sixth place in the KHL's Western Conference.

The Czechs nearly blew a 3-0 lead when Torpedo reduced the deficit to a single goal in the final period.

But they had goaltender Jakub Stepanek to thank for preserving the advantage by making 44 saves in Wednesday's game.

“We had huge problems crossing the neutral zone and we didn´t practically get anything,” Vaclav Sykora was quoted as saying by Lev’s website.

“Fortunately, we were able get the win in the end. Most credit should go to Jakub Stepanek, who played well.”

Lev’s top scorer Jakub Klepis opened the score on 17 minutes with his 14th goal of the season.

Tomas Rachunek and Lubos Bartecko extended the lead early in the second period before goals from forwards Mikhail Varnakov and Artem Chernov brought the visitors right back in it.

But Philadelphia Flyers wing Jakub Voracek secured Lev’s victory with an empty-net goal 30 seconds before the buzzer.

Torpedo stands eighth in the West with 13 wins in 31 games.
