MOSCOW, December 2 (R-Sport) - Joan Guzman broke his hand and leg in the WBA light welterweight defeat to Russia’s Khabib Allakhverdiev, specialist website boxingscene.com reported Sunday.
Guzman, of the Dominican Republic, lost his unbeaten record in Friday's bout defeat for the vacant title and slipped to 33-1-1, with one no contest.
He lost on a split decision in the eighth round after suffering a knee injury that caused the fight to be stopped.
Guzman suffered "two fractures in his right hand and a serious fracture to the lower part of his left knee," boxingscene.com reported.
Photographs show Guzman in a hospital bed with casts on his leg and arm.
