MOSCOW, November 13 (R-Sport) – Russian Premier League matches scheduled for freezing December should be moved to spring, Lokomotiv Moscow president Olga Smorodskaya said Tuesday.
Two rounds of games have been planned to take place in December, sparking criticism from many players and coaches that the sub-zero temperatures and badly deteriorating pitches could turn the fixtures into a farce.
“I think that two round of games should be postponed,” said Smorodskaya at a general league meeting.
Some teams have already begun to experience problems with playing surfaces, with Lokomotiv's natural grass cutting up badly in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Anzhi.
The league calendar traditionally ran from March to November to avoid the winter, and this season is the first time the league is using a Western European-style autumn-spring calendar.
