MOSCOW, November 7 (R-Sport) – Inga Abitova, the 2006 European 10,000 meter champion, has been suspended for two years for failing a drugs test, Russia's athletics federation said Wednesday.

The 30-year-old distance runner, now ranked 49 in the world, will miss her home World Athletics Championships in Moscow next summer, and has all her results since October 2009 wiped from the records.

"The decision was taken on the basis of abnormal blood profile indicators in her biological passport," the federation said.

World Anti-Doping Agency rules state all athletes must keep and update passports to monitor biological variables that would help detect doping.

It means Abitova can retain the 2006 title but has to hand back the silver medals she won at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona and the London Marathon of the same year.

Abitova did not make Russia's team for the Olympics.

The federation announced in July it had handed two-year bans to runners Svetlana Klyuka, Nailya Yulamanova and Yevgenia Zinurova for doping offenses.
