MOSCOW, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues scored a goal and two assists as his lockout team SKA St. Petersburg thrashed KHL newcomer Donbass Donetsk 9-2.
The dominant scoreline disguised a spirited road performance from Donbass, which outshot SKA 39-36, as the host’s NHL goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 14 shots in the first period and 15 in the third.
Igor Kucheryavenko and Igor Makarov hit two goals each for SKA, which is third in the Western Conference.
“Both teams played not too bad,” Bobrovsky said. “After the second period, the guys went out motivated not to give away the game and knock out our opponent.”
Donbass is 11th in the Western Conference standings.
It was the team's final game before a two-week KHL break.
Elsewhere, Pavel Datsyuk scored a goal and an assist for CSKA Moscow as his team smashed Amur Khabarovsk 6-2.
CSKA held the lead throughout after Datsyuk scored three minutes into the game in Moscow, but suffered a blow when ex-Nashville Predators forward Alexander Radulov left the ice with a knee injury.
CSKA bounced back from a 5-3 defeat to Metallurg Novokuznetsk with the win, and is now fourth in the West, with Amur 11th in the East.
Last season’s champion Dynamo Moscow retained the lead in the Western Conference after beating capital city rival Spartak 5-2, despite the absence of the ill Alex Ovechkin.
Three goals in six minutes in the first period decided matters as Maxim Solovyev put his team 3-0 ahead with a goal and two assists as Dynamo marched to its third straight win.
The final game of the day saw Ak Bars Kazan record a 4-0 win over Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, with goaltender Konstantin Barulin facing 28 shots for the shutout.
Denis Zaripov was another hero for Ak Bars with two goals as the Kazan team took fourth in the Eastern Conference, with Torpedo down to fifth in the West after a third straight defeat on its road trip in the East.
