World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka and reigning champion Sam Stosur won their fourth-round matches to meet in the U.S. Open quarterfinals.

The Belarusian star eased past Georgia’s Anna Tatishvili, ranked 73 in the world, 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday, while seventh seed Stosur eliminated Britain's Laura Robson 6-4, 6-4.

Maria Sharapova fought off a comeback in an all-Russian encounter against Nadia Petrova to prevail 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Sharapova, the world No. 3, was two games down in the deciding set before charging back to set up a quarterfinal against Marion Bartoli.

The Frenchwoman slayed fifth seed Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.

In the men’s draw, defending champion Novak Djokovic won his third match of the tournament without dropping a set, defeating France’s Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

In the fourth round, the Serbian faces 18th seed Stanislas Wawrinka, who dispatched Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov, seeded 14, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Spain's David Ferrer, meanwhile, ousted Australian veteran Lleyton Hewitt 7-6(9), 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to book an encounter against 13th seed Richard Gasquet.

The 26-year-old Frenchman knocked out wild card Steve Johnson of the United States 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-3, while Germany’s 19th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber upset another U.S. player, John Isner, in a five-set thriller 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, seventh seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina completed a hard-fougth win over his compatriot Leonardo Mayer 6-3, 7-5, 7-6(9), and eight seed Janko Tipsarevic downed world No. 99 Grega Zemlja of Slovenia 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
