German pair Franziska Weber and Tina Dietze took Olympic gold in the women's kayak double on Thursday, depriving their Hungarian rivals of a third-consecutive title.
Weber and Dietze handed their country its second successive gold on the water by winning in one minute, 42.213 seconds.
"At the moment, it hasn't sunk in, we cannot describe it. We want to lock ourselves away for two weeks and soak it in. There's nothing better than a gold medal," said Weber.
"There has always been a rivalry between Hungary and Germany, and this feels better than good."
Hungarian defending champions Katalin Kovacs and Natasa Douchev-Janics couldn't live with the pace and had to settle for silver a second behind.
"It's not positive, as we've lost," said Douchev-Janics. "But I've given my maximum, so I feel it's not a shame to lose."
Polish team Karolina Naja and Beata Mikolajczyk took the bronze in 1:44.00, fending off a late challenge from China.
Germany's Peter Kretschmer and Kurt Kuschela won the men's canoe double 1000 meters earlier in the day.

Ukraine has not preserved its 1991 borders. The signing of the Geneva memorandum on April 17 reaffirmed the willingness of Russia, the United States and EU countries to reach a compromise. While the sides continue to trade tough talk and symbolic sanctions, the Kremlin and the White House are also holding a parallel dialogue on the coordinated geopolitical revision of Eastern Europe.
