Second seed Novak Djokovic demolished Andy Roddick of the United States to reach the third round at the Olympics on Tuesday.

The Beijing bronze medalist Djokovic left little chance for the American, hitting 29 winners against Roddick’s 11 to secure a 6-2, 6-1 win.

The Serbian star will face either 13th seed Marin Cilic or Australia's Lleyton Hewitt in round three.

Elsewhere, Britain’s No. 1 Andy Murray ousted Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen to arrange a third-round meeting with Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, who toppled 16th seed Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier in the women’s draw, Venus Williams encountered weak resistance from the Canadian player, ranked 52 in the world, hitting 32 winners against Wozniak’s seven to race to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

In the third round, Williams, the Sydney gold medalist, will face seventh seed Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Kerber, 24, swept past Hungarian teenager Timea Babos taking her down in less than an hour 6-1, 6-1.
