The new Moscow Raceway is a difficult track where it is almost impossible to overtake, one of Britain's brightest motorsports prospects told R-Sport on Saturday.

Sam Bird finished third in the inaugural race on the track Saturday, but lost the 3.5 class Renault World Series championship lead to Dutch winner Robin Frijns.

"The track itself is challenging, although very little overtaking opportunities," he said, adding that many drivers had struggled on the slippery new surface.

"Because it's a new circuit, obviously there was no rubber down at the beginning of the weekend. Now there is quite a bit of rubber."

Bird added that he felt honored to be one of the first to race on the new circuit, which Formula One race dierctor Charlie Whiting said was up to F1 specifications.

"It is a privilege. It's great that World Series have taken this step and had the faith and confidence with the Russian organization here," he said.

"The grandstands are not fully completed with all the seats but even so, the track is complete, the marshals are doing the best job they can."

Bird, 25, is now second in the championship ahead of Sunday's second race of the round, 10 points behind Frijns.
