Shooting guard Sammy Mejia has left CSKA Moscow after six months, the Russian team said Friday.

Mejia, who has Dominican and U.S. nationality, joined CSKA in January but struggled to get enough playing time due to competition from former Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko.

“Our club and the forward Sammy Mejia, pursuing our mutual interests, have agreed to terminate the contract,” CSKA said on its website.

“CSKA respectfully thanks Sammy for the work he has done in the 2011-12 seasons and his help, not just on the basketball court, but in building a friendly atmosphere in the team.”

Mejia played in 24 games for CSKA since joining from French team Cholet.

He was a second-round NBA draft pick for the Detroit Pistons in June 2007, but was waived four months later.
