Andy Carroll can exploit Sweden's defensive weaknesses to drive England to victory against Sweden later Friday, former national team goalkeeper David James told R-Sport on Friday.

The Liverpool target man is expected to get his second competitive start for his country in the crucial Euro 2012 clash in Kiev.

The stage is set for the 6ft 3in striker to continue the aerial torment of a team that was beaten 2-1 by co-host Ukraine after two headed goals from Andriy Shevchenko, James said.

"It gives an opportunity for the likes of Andy Carroll to come in and boss things."

"I think Sweden showed a few weaknesses for sure, Shevchenko scoring two goals there with the headers, I don't think anybody expected that."

James, 41, has mixed memories of Ukraine, where he last appeared in 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat in 2009.

Coming on as a substitute after Robert Green had been sent off, James witnessed Andriy Shevchecko strike a penalty against the post.
