Russian 11th seed Vera Zvonareva withdrew from the French Open ahead of her first-round match on Monday due to a shoulder injury.

The former world No. 2 was to play Hungary's Timea Babos, who is 67th in the WTA rankings

"The decision was taken two hours ago," Zvonareva said. "Today I couldn't even train. I can't say about the timing of recovery as I need to see a specialist."

"I will undergo a first examination here, in Paris, and afterward will be deciding where to continue the treatment."

Zvonareva is also uncertain about her participation in the London Olympics, she added.

In the second round Babos will face either world No. 99 Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand or 46th-ranked Spaniard Carla Suarez.

Zvonareva, 27, who has 12 career titles, has had a modest start to 2012.

Her best showing was at April's Family Circle Cup in Charleston, where she was knocked out of the quarterfinals by Czech Lucie Safarova.

The shoulder injury kept Zvonareva out of April's Fed Cup semifinal against Serbia, where the Russian team lost 3-2, as well as out of the Stuttgart Grand Prix and this month's Rome Masters.
