Dynamo Moscow coach Sergei Silkin is likely to sign a contract extension at the end of May, the club chairman told RIA Novosti on Monday.

Speculation has swirled that the 51-year-old might be fired after Dynamo lost the fight for second in the Russian Premier League, finishing fourth, and were defeated 1-0 in the Russian Cup final by Rubin Kazan.

Feuds between Silkin and the club's top two players, captain Andriy Voronin and Igor Semshov, added to the rumors.

But the chairman of the board Vasily Titov said Silkin "has very high chances of being asked to continue his work."

Silkin succeeded Miodrag Bozovic in April 2011, inheriting a team that was ninth in the table with just seven points from five games.

He deployed Semshov and Voronin in attacking roles and had the team playing among the best football in the division, raising Dynamo to third by December.

But he reverted to a more defensive style after the winter break that Semshov publicly lambasted. Silkin responded by dropping him and Voronin for some of the run-in, which saw Dynamo take three wins in 12 games.

"Of course, there was a possibility to achieve better results, which we would have preferred," said Titov.

"But if Silkin took the team from ninth to fourth, it would be wrong to say he showed no results at all. Undoubtedly, there are some problem's in the team, also with its organization and performance, and they are worthy of discussion."

Silkin's future will be decided at a May 24 board meeting, Titov said.
