Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov will guard Russia’s goal in the country’s Euro Hockey Tour game against Finland, the Russian Hockey Federation said Thursday.

Russia will take on Finland on Thursday in the Russian city of St. Petersburg in the only game of the Tour’s final stage to be played outside the Czech Republic.

The Tour event, which also includes Sweden and the Czech Republic, is the final test for Europe’s top teams ahead of the world championship, which runs from May 4 through 20 in Finland and Sweden.

The Avalanche failed to reach the NHL playoffs, finishing 11th in the Western Conference.

Varlamov, 23, joined the Washington Capitals in 2008 before moving to the Avalanche at the start of the current season. In 112 NHL games, he has conceded 272 goals, with a .915 save percentage.
