CSKA Moscow are on the brink of signing Brazilian defender Mario Fernandes from his native club Gremio, the biggest Portuguese-language news portal Universo Online reported Sunday.

The site quoted Gremio president Paulo Odone as saying a verbal agreement had been reached.

"It is all set and agreed," Odone was quoted as saying.

"But the documents are yet to be signed by all the sides: clubs, investors and the lawyer. Mario and CSKA have not discussed the details of personal agreement, but negotiations will start on Monday."

Mario Fernandes, 21, has been at Gremio since 2009, making 101 appearances for the club.

In September he won a call-up to the Brazilian national team for a friendly against Argentina, but spent all the game on the bench.

If the deal goes through, Fernandes will become the only Brazilian at the Moscow club after striker Vagner Love left for his home side Flamengo this winter for a reported €10 million.

CSKA is known to frequently scout Brazil for young talent.

Apart from Vagner Love, who was signed from second-division Palmeiras to become the Russian Premier League's all-time top foreign goalscorer, CSKA signed forward Jo from Corinthians in 2005, selling him to Manchester City three years later.

And Daniel Carvalho came from Internacional in 2004 to leave for Atlético Mineiro in 2010.
