A Moscow court has prohibited a state-controlled trade union of flight controllers to organize strikes, citing provisions of Russia's air navigation and labor codes, the Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday.

In line with its charter, the trade union has the right to organize protests, rallies and strikes to defend the social and labor rights of its members.

The Prosecutor’s Office asked the court to declare the provision as running against the country's air navigation and labor codes, stating that “strikes and other ways of halting work (as a means to resolve collective and individual labor disputes and other conflict situations) by civil aviation personnel are not allowed.”

According to prosecutors, the legal restrictions are intended to “ensure the protection of the rights and legal interests of citizens, state defense and security.”

The court agreed with the prosecutors, ordering the trade union to amend its charter so that it corresponded to Russians laws.
