Russia is ready to provide aid to the West African countries, fighting the outbreak of the Ebola virus, Russian Minister of Emergencies Vladimir Puchkov said Saturday.

MOSCOW, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to provide aid to the West African countries, fighting the outbreak of the Ebola virus, Russian Minister of Emergencies Vladimir Puchkov said Saturday.

“Our units are ready to provide prompt assistance and support to the countries of West Africa, where the Ebola epidemic has broken out. A powerful aviation unit and the specialists provided with proper tools and equipment are ready to work in these heavy conditions,” the minister said at a meeting broadcasted by Rossiya 24 television channel.

According to the World Health Organization, the Ebola virus death toll has exceeded 3,400 with Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone hit the hardest. Nigeria and Senegal are among the other African nations with registered cases of the disease. In addition, a Liberian national has been hospitalized in the United States with confirmed Ebola diagnosis.

There is no officially approved cure for the virus. However, several nations, including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan are working on a vaccine.
