MOSCOW, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Allegations by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe Philip Breedlove of the deployment of four Russian army battalions in eastern Ukraine are frivolous and inexcusable for a professional military officer, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
"Four regular army battalions with all heavy equipment is not a needle in a haystack," the spokesman said in a statement.
"Such allegations by a many-star general, who backs his claims only by his own 'suppositions,' are frivolous, to say the least," the official said.
"This could be excusable for retiring politicians but not for military professionals," he added.
Addressing the audience at the US Atlantic Council non-governmental think-tank, Breedlove has claimed that the elements of at least four Russian battalion task groups remained in Ukraine's Donbas area fighting on the side of independence supporters.
