BARNAUL, October 3 (RIA Novosti) – A drunk dad who let his 8-year-old son drive him and another son home on a rural Siberian road was detained while trying to flee traffic police, Russian authorities said Thursday.
Officers stopped the vehicle in the mountains of the Altai Territory and found the 8-year-old behind the wheel and his 12-year-old brother and dad in the backseat, the local branch of the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Police detained the dad as he tried to run away, the statement said, adding that the car, a Toyota Carina, was impounded. Shortly after the incident, the man’s wife filed a complaint claiming that the boys were beaten by police. An investigation is under way.

Some people are trying to make the reality in Russia at least a bit more humane. The amnesty should apply not only to persons involved in high-profile cases, but also to individuals who are not as well-known. It is better to set free at least some of the individuals who deserve to be released than no one at all.
