Topic: Gay Propaganda Ban in Russia
MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) – A bill that proposes stripping gays with children of their parental rights was introduced in the lower house of the Russian parliament by a lawmaker from the ruling party on Thursday.
The bill is a follow-up to legislation introduced in June that bans propagation of “gay propaganda among minors,” according to the document’s text, available on the State Duma’s website.
“Harm that could be inflicted on a child’s mental health in case of their parent’s homosexual contacts is immense,” the bill’s author, United Russia party member Andrei Zhuravlyov, said in a note accompanying the document.
The bill cited a controversial 2012 study by US sociologist Mark Regnerus as proof that gay parenting distorts a child’s sexual orientation and increases suicidal tendencies, social ineptitude and risks of catching venereal disease.
The study by Regnerus, an associate professor at the University of Austin and a practicing Christian, has sparked vehement debate in the sociological community and was formally condemned by the American Sociological Association as invalid earlier this year. Zhuravlyov’s note makes no mention of the controversy, but claim Regnerus’ findings were corroborated by unspecified independent experts.
No timeframe for the bill’s review was given as of Thursday. The Duma will hold its first session after the summer recess next Monday.
The idea of stripping LGBT parents of their rights was first aired in June by ultraconservative Duma lawmaker Yelena Mizulina, an ardent backer of the ban on “gay propaganda.”
Mizulina’s proposal prompted one of Russia’s most prominent gay rights champions, liberal journalist Masha Gessen, to leave Russia for the United States. Gessen said she feared the two children she was raising with her girlfriend could be taken away from her.
“As a gay parent I must flee Russia or lose my children,” Gessen, who holds dual Russian-American citizenship, said in an op-ed in The Guardian newspaper last month.
Between 5 and 7 percent of the Russian population are gay, a third of whom have children, Zhuravlyov’s bill claimed, citing unspecified experts. If true, the figures implies that between 2.3 million and 3.3 million Russians face possibly losing their children if the bill is passed.

- BlizzardMy opinion18:28, 05/09/2013Well I think you do not need to be genius to understand that gay cannot parent kids as it would be against any natural law. If nature would want that gay people have kids it would be done and all of us would be happy gays, but as it is not like that our kids still need father and mother to make them. As to make child are needed two of different sex there is also that child needs two parents of different sex.
Let us leave this biological reasons as there is no way that any gay can reasonably and logically oppose them. For a start even most dedicated gay person has been born by mother (female) and fathered by father (male). Female egg paired with another egg still produces just two eggs (short living any way) and nothing else, same goes to man's sperms. No matter how many hectoliters of one's sperm we mix with another man's sperm we will still have only bucket-load of mixed sperm and nothing else. IN either case no kids.
Let us pay a little attention to the kids feelings. We are leaving in the age when selling bullshit to kids just doesn't work any more. Kids understand world better than we ever did at their age. They know that being gay is still same as being outcast. No one who considers himself straight want to be in anyway associated with gay people. I do not say that this is right, by my understanding it is not and believe that the gay people have rights to exist and live their life as they wish.
However when gay people wants to present themselves as mainstream straight population than that's just a bit to much. It is my opinion that would be terrified as kid if I would have two fathers or two mothers as parents. I would feel different and humiliated. Just imagine tortures these kids would undergone in school and on the streets when other kids would know about their parents.
Not to mention that if there would be case (same applies for straight parents)of sexual child abuse by homosexual parents. People would hang them on the top of lamp post.
I personally think and believe that kids have to be protected from both physical pain as well as psychological. In order to avoid exactly that this law is welcome and in my opinion just. Over here in EU as in US politicians are only joggling with gay votes and raise false and wrong hope to gay people.
Who would give his/hers child to gay couple?? I surely NEVER.

During Vladimir Putin’s annual Q&A session some members of the Valdai International Discussion Club asked him several questions. How united is the West in its desire to punish Russia? Which EU countries are in favour of isolating Russia? Is this even possible? And what is going on in Ukraine?
