MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – Over half of Russians on the whole approve of what fugitive US former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden did, an opinion survey by the Levada Center pollster has shown.

Snowden, who is wanted by the United States for leaking classified data about the US National Security Agency’s surveillance programs, formally requested temporary asylum in Russia on July 16. Washington has repeatedly called on Moscow to reject Snowden’s request and send him back to the United States to stand trial on charges of espionage and theft.

According to the survey published Wednesday, 15 percent of respondents said they have a positive attitude toward Snowden’s leaking activities, whereas 36 percent said they were “rather positive” about it.

Fourteen percent said they were “rather negative” about what Snowden had done, while 3 percent totally disapproved of his actions. A total of 32 percent had not made up their minds.

Asked whether Russia should grant asylum to Snowden, 13 percent of respondents said it should, 30 percent said “probably,” 19 percent said “probably not,” whereas 10 percent were against it. Some 28 percent said they did not know.

The survey was conducted on July 18-22, 2013 among 1,601 urban and rural residents aged 18 and above in 130 cities, towns and villages across 45 Russian regions. The statistical margin of error did not exceed 3.4 percent.

What is wrong with all journalists, politicians and some ordinary people? If anyone goes to make a homework and reads about legal implications about spying. It is absolutely clear to anyone that spying is a severely punishable criminal offense, no matter who perpetrates it.

Now the reality, US is publicly calling Mr Snowden a criminal, even though he is a only a very positive person who deserves Nobel prize for piece as all he did is to whistle blow who simply revealed to the world that US is conducting illegal and criminal activity against everyone.

I cannot understand Mr Putin after knowing what happened and still happens is calling US a FRIENDS. US Government is simple criminal organization which conducts harmful activity against Russia and rest of the world.

US spying is already giving unprecedented advantage to US industry and military as they are in knowledge of every Russian military secret, about every Russian weapon system performance and weaknesses, they know all that is still in store in Russian military industry, they have on a silver plate all military designs, drawings, tests etc. which were at any point in time sent fro A to B via E-mail, shared and discussed over the Skype or mobile phone.

US has access to every mean of electronic communication in Russia, and no one will ever convince me that they are using these information for friendly storage purpose. They are using them against Russian National interest which is totally illegal.

Where is now very tough guy, big macho, fearless fighter for Russian name, image and power. It seams to me that he is more likely scared cat rather than fierce tiger. Mr Putin, stand up and tell publicly that US is not your trusted partner but untrusted cheat and thief. Stand up for the interest of Russian people who elected you to office.

Protect Snowden and be very clear about American partners, as they are not your partners, they are treating you as arch enemy.
