MOSCOW, March 3 (RIA Novosti) – Seven teenagers were trapped in a snow avalanche in the Republic of Tyva in southern Siberia, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
Russia’s Emergencies Ministry previously reported that five children had been trapped in the avalanche.
“According to available information, seven teenagers aged 16-17 who are pupils of a local secondary school could have been trapped in the avalanche,” the Interior Ministry said.
The avalanche occurred 6 km (4 miles) from the village of Mugur-Aksy in the republic’s Mongun-Taiginsky distinct.
A search and rescue operation is under way.

Military exercises are held in order to prevent a war rather than prepare for one. If a potential enemy knows and sees that the Russian Army is constantly improving its skills and adopting state-of-the-art combat equipment and combat support systems he will hardly risk aggression against these Armed Forces and the country they defend.
