No gross violations have been reported during Sunday’s Russian presidential elections in the Chukotka Autonomous Area, as well as in the Kamchatka and Magadan regions in the Far East, regional election commissions reported.
Five candidates - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, nationalist Liberal Democratic Party head Vladimir Zhirinovsky, A Just Russia Party leader Sergei Mironov and the only independent, billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov - vie for the Russian presidency in the March 4 vote.
A spokesman for the Chukotka election commission said voter turnout was 48 percent four hours since polling stations opened.
“Precinct and territorial commissions receive complaints but they are all unsubstantial and do not drastically affect the election course. All complaints are promptly checked on the site,” the spokesman said.
Voter turnout in Kamchatka totaled about 24 percent, and in the Magadan Region, 18.5 percent.
The figures for other constituent members of the Russian Federation were the following: voter turnout in the Jewish Autonomous Area exceeded 21 percent four hours since the polls opened. Over 22 percent of voters cast their ballots in the Khabarovsk Territory.
Four hours since the vote started voter turnout was about 24 percent in Yakutia and exceeded 20 percent in the Sakhalin Region and the Kuril Islands and 21 percent in the Primorye Region.
