A post office employee and her lover were arrested in southern Russia on Monday for stealing and spending 7.5 million rubles that was to be delivered to retirees, on a life of luxury in Moscow and Russian resorts, the Volgograd police said.

Anastasia, 26, who was brought up in an orphanage, and Igor, a taxi driver in a civil marriage with two children, were detained in the Azov Sea resort of Slavyansk-on-Kuban where they were waiting to be arrested with only 500,000 rubles left and no regrets.

“No, I don’t regret anything,” Anastasia said upon her arrest, echoing Igor who said. “We live only once, what’s done is done. You wouldn’t understand."

Anastasia, who had worked in the post office in the Volgograd Region in central Russia, disappeared with the money in September. A single mother, she left her daughter with a relative, and proposed embarking on a journey to her lover Igor.

During their tour of Moscow and southern Russian resorts, they bought two cars, expensive clothes, rented a room in a Moscow hotel and a flat in Slavyansk-on-Kuban.
