A plume of smoke after a bomb attack on a hydropower plant in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria is still visible, a witness told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
The witness said that the area around the Baksan power plant has been cordoned off by police and only ambulances and Emergency Ministry vehicles are being allowed into the area.
"There is some white smoke coming from the building. The building itself is pretty scorched and you can see where the explosion occurred," the witness said.
Two security guards were shot dead when militants burst into the Baksan plant in the village of Islamei at about 5:00 a.m. (01:00 GMT). One other person was hospitalized after the attack.
Investigators say the militants then detonated four explosive devices. The resulting blaze covered an area of 250 sq meters. The fire has been extinguished.
