A new temperature record of 35 degrees Centigrade (95 degrees Fahrenheit) was registered in Moscow on Saturday, a source in the Fobos meteorological center said.

The previous record of 33.7 degrees Centigrade (92.66 degrees Fahrenheit) was recorded in 1951.
More records were also registered around Moscow. For example, temperature rose to 38 degrees Centigrade (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) near the airports of Domodedovo and Bykovo, southeast of the Russian capital.
Russian meteorologists say the 2010 summer is one of the three hottest on record.
The heat wave in the entire Central Russia area is expected to last until July 22. Average day temperatures in Moscow are 8-10 degrees Centigrade above the norm.
Due to the heat, the army has allowed its soldiers to wear lighter clothing and Moscow residents have been walking around under umbrellas to try and get some shade.
On July 17, the traditional changing of the infantry and cavalry guard at Cathedral Square near the Moscow Kremlin will be cancelled since it will be too hot for the sentries to wear their traditional early 20th century woolen parade uniforms and the horses are in danger of heatstroke.

Military exercises are held in order to prevent a war rather than prepare for one. If a potential enemy knows and sees that the Russian Army is constantly improving its skills and adopting state-of-the-art combat equipment and combat support systems he will hardly risk aggression against these Armed Forces and the country they defend.
