The Number of foreign tourists who visit Moscow in 2010 may reach 4.1 million, exceeding the 2008 pre-crisis figure of 4.012 million, head of the Moscow tourism committee said on Tuesday.

Grigory Antufeev said tourists to Moscow mostly come from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Britain and the United States. China recently became the seventh biggest source of tourists to the Russian capital.

Antufeev recommended that tourists visit the older areas of Moscow.

"I think the old routes are the best ones: the Church of Christ the Saviour, Tsaritsyno Park, the Kremlin. Moscow has an enormous number of sites," he said.

However, the committee head said the increasing number of tourists was not just a result of the quantity of sites, but also a result of efforts by the Moscow authorities and the city's participation in international events.

"We have shown that Moscow can hold international events greater than any other city in the world. Of course, there were some distressing issues, such as terrorist attacks that reduced the number of people visiting Moscow, but those were temporary blips, now the tourism is growing," he said.
